Therapy for Illness and Caregiving
Specialized Support When You Need It Most
Virtual psychotherapy for people residing in California, in-person sessions available in Oakland
Whether you’re a patient or caregiver, it can be extremely difficult to cope with acute, chronic, or serious illness, as well as with injury, disability, chronic pain or medical trauma . These experiences are impacted by everything else we have been through in our lives, and forever affect how we view ourselves, our bodies, our relationships, and how our lives were “supposed” to go.
Each of us will inevitably experience being a care-giver or a care-recipient, and specialized therapeutic support can help you navigate the specific difficulties that illness or any health issues present. At any age, stage, or severity of illness or injury, cultivating resilience is possible.
By working collaboratively together, we can explore topics like uncertainty, loss, identity, meaning-making, and mortality. I am nationally board certified in palliative care and have experience across many illness categories such as cancer, stroke, ALS, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, neuromuscular conditions, heart or lung problems, kidney disease, auto-immune disorders, and many more. I also specialize in working with people who have a loved one with dementia or cognitive impairment, though do not usually work directly with the person with cognitive impairment.
Amidst everything else you are coordinating and juggling, you made it here. I hope to be a supportive partner through your personal illness or caregiving journey. I would be honored to talk with you for a free 15-minute consultation to see if we would be a good fit. I am based in the Bay Area, seeing folks in-person in Oakland, but also provide service via tele-health throughout California.
